Brooklyn Nine-Nine star teases that Gina hasn't left the show for good

It was an odd time to be a Brooklyn Nine-Nine fan last year. The crushing low of the show's cancellation by Fox was almost immediately countered by the exhilarating high of its being picked up for a sixth season by NBC.
This in turn was tempered by the network's announcement that it would only be 13 episodes long, which then (stay with me) was increased to 18, but would sadly see the departure of the fan-favourite sardonic administrator Gina Linetti (Chelsea Peretti) as a show regular.
However, Gina's absence as a regular is not the be-all-and-end-all with regards to her future presence in the show, as co-star Stephanie Beatriz, who plays the hard-as-nails Rosa Diaz, recently revealed.
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight while promoting The Lego Movie 2, Beatriz said: "Chelsea Peretti is a gift from the gods. She really is one of the greats. She's not really leaving. We are shooting an episode with her coming back very soon.
"She might not be in every episode, but she's still very much a part of the world," she continued. "Gina's forever in the fabric of Brooklyn Nine-Nine. It just wouldn't be the show without her, so I think audiences are going to be really pleased to see her come back. We just did that table read the other day and it's a really fire script. I can't wait for people to see it!"
Neither can we, Stephanie!
With the cancellation and renewal being such a close-run thing, executive producer Dan Goor has spoken about feeling the need to live up to viewers' expectations.
"We are committed to making the same kind of show for the same kind of audience. I always feel a tremendous amount of pressure to make the fans happy and make sure they enjoy the show," he said.
"But it’s more of the same, I hope, in a good way. I think you have a shorthand with your audience. They understand who the characters are and why they would act the way they do in certain situations.”
Brooklyn Nine-Nine will air on E4 in 2019.
