Watch: Brothers speak out after wrongful arrest by armed police

Two brothers wrongfully arrested by armed officers who stormed their house have branded the police force responsible 'incompetent'.

Sharaz Hussain, 36, and his brother Shazad Hussain, 39, were both arrested and handcuffed at gunpoint during a dramatic raid at the former's home in Oldham.

Officers from West Yorkshire Police were searching for Kashif Hussain, 43, who is being sought in relation to a firearms incident in Bradford in January.

But they swooped on the wrong address on Wednesday night (9 February) and arrested the brothers, who have the same surname.

Sharaz described how he was thrown to the ground by police and left bleeding. Video footage of the incident shows him being held by police with blood coming from a gash to the side of his head.

His brother was also arrested and taken to a nearby police station before the pair were later released.

They are now demanding an apology from West Yorkshire Police and have said they are taking legal advice.

In an interview with ITV, Sharaz branded the officers "incompetent", saying: "They haven't done their homework properly.

"They're professional, they're supposed to be trained, but the way these lot came without getting any knowledge from the local authorities, they could have found out who lived here.

"Basically they don't know what they're doing."

Dramatic footage shows the moment armed police arrested Sharaz, a taxi driver, on his doorstep.

He said: "I could see somebody looking through the window. I opened the door and armed police were in front of me. The guy was right there with a battering ram.

"I thought at first someone was trying to rob me. Then an officer came to the front with a gun pointing at me. He was shouting: 'Armed police, get down on the floor'.

"I was barefoot. Two other officers gripped me and threw me onto the floor."

Sharaz, who was left with a cut over his left eye, said despite officers checking his ID, they still arrested him and went on to also arrest his brother.

The pair were taken to Ashton-under-Lyne police station but were later released.

He said: "It was terrible. I'm 36. I was born and bred in Oldham. I've worked all my life.

"I have no bad record. This was like going through hell for me, my wife and the kids. My wife was traumatised. I was traumatised.

"I want an apology from the people who arrested me.

"There was no need for the way they treated me. I would have understood if I came out flying or angry. I wasn't."
