Broxtowe Borough Council has confirmed that it has suspended every single one of its planned bin collections due to disruption caused by snow. Heavy snow falling overnight on Monday (November 18) caused disruption across Nottinghamshire, with several schools closed and train and bus passengers facing delays.

Several Nottinghamshire councils saw bin collections affected, with Nottingham City Council suspending its bulky waste and white goods collections. Gedling Borough Council also suspended some collections but in their case, and in Nottingham's, normal collections went ahead with a caveat that bin crews might not be able to empty all bins due to road conditions.

Broxtowe Borough Council has now confirmed that it went a step further by suspending all bin collections. The Labour-led authority confirmed in a statement: "Unfortunately due to the snow this morning, all waste and recycling collections have been suspended today.

"If your bin was due to be collected by our team today, please see your revised collection below. We apologise for any inconvenience caused by this."

Those expecting a recycling or garden waste collection on Tuesday will now have their bins emptied on Saturday (November 23). The scheduled glass collection has been suspended until next month, meaning people are being advised to take glass to their nearest recycling bank.

The scheduled bulky waste collection will take place on Wednesday (November 20). Mansfield was another area of Nottinghamshire where people were warned of potential delays, with bin crews reporting that some areas were inaccessible because of the snow.

In its latest update on bin collections, Gedling Borough Council said: "Our crews have been attempting to collect household waste and recycling bins throughout the day, however, many streets are too dangerous or inaccessible due to the snow. We are planning to come back out to collect black bins tomorrow (Wednesday) and for green recycling bins on (Thursday) so if we have not collected today, please leave them out until we can collect.

"We will not be collecting missed glass boxes, so please take your boxes back in, we apologise for the inconvenience, and we will take additional glass on your next scheduled collection. We will also return for missed brown garden waste bins as soon as we can so please leave them out."
