Bruce Springsteen performs with wife Patti Scialfa for coronavirus fundraiser

Bruce Springsteen performed two songs with wife Patti Scialfa as part of a coronavirus relief fundraiser for his native New Jersey.

The “Born To Run” singer took part in the Jersey 4 Jersey virtual benefit concert, which aims to keep spirits high during lockdown and raise money for the New Jersey Pandemic Relief Fund.

Springsteen and guitarist Scialfa performed a moving rendition of his 1999 song “Land of Hope and Dreams”, then going on to play his own version of “Jersey Girl” by Tom Waits.

Introducing his performance, the 70-year-old said: “We’re here tonight dedicated to our healthcare workers and all of those who have lost loved ones [and those] who are suffering and dying with this terrible disease right here, right now, and our beloved state.”

Presented by Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert, Jon Bon Jovi, SZA and Halsey were also among the performers at the telethon.

Following the death of Adam Schlesinger due to Covid-19, Fountains of Wayne virtually reunited for the first time since 2013 to pay tribute to their former bandmate.

“This is for Adam, his parents, his children and New Jersey,” frontman Chris Collingwood said.
