Bruce Willis's daughter issues health update on Hollywood star dad's dementia

Bruce Willis's daughter Rumer Willis has issued a health update on her dad's dementia.

The Die Hard actor stepped away from acting in 2022, after being diagnosed with aphasia - a neurological disorder that impairs communication abilities.

Bruce's condition has since developed into a form of dementia called frontotemporal dementia, a rare and progressive brain disorder that affects the frontal and temporal lobes.

The star's daughter Rumer appeared on Loose Women via video link on Monday (February 3), where she discussed her dad's health and the impact of the recent wildfires in Los Angeles.

"He's doing great. I think, obviously as many people in California, the thing we're all kind of the most scared, dealing with is just fires and wanting to make sure everything is okay," she told panellists Kaye Adams and Judi Love.

"My family, we're all so close, I think what's so beautiful is the way that we rally around each other, [it's] so lovely, because we really are a unit."

Rumer, who is known for her roles in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and 90210, also spoke about becoming a mother for the first time, as well as her own parents - Bruce and Demi Moore - being role models for her.

"I think the thing I'm most grateful for is that even when they split up, they created such a beautiful foundation of prioritising my sisters and I, that I never felt like I had to choose or like, they never played against each other," she explained.

"We were a family, and we still are very much a family no matter what. And not only did I feel like that has set me up in my life to have such a beautiful foundation of my own family, but now, as I'm working through co-parenting as well, I feel deep gratitude for the example they've set."

Elsewhere in the interview, the actress shared how "challenging" she found growing up in the spotlight, and reflected on how much it taught her.

A source recently told Life and Style that Bruce's dementia diagnosis has left him "not the same anymore", though his "spirit is still there".

"He's being brave, but life is also scary for him at times. The public doesn't see the dark side of his illness. Fortunately, he has his family to support him through what they've come to accept as his final chapter," they added.
