Bruno Fernandes says he wishes to spend time celebrating winning the FA Cup with Erik ten Hag and has refused to get drawn into speculation over the manager’s future.

Ten Hag lifted his second trophy as United boss in his two-season tenure, having won the League Cup last year which ended a six-season club wait for silverware. His position at United remains uncertain after reports broke on Friday that he was due to be dismissed after the cup final.

Fernandes - who gets his hands on his first trophy as permanent captain - admitted that his boss has been under pressure this season, which increased after United recorded their worst-ever Premier League finish this campaign.

However, the skipper refrained from throwing his full support behind the manager, but instead underlined that he believes Ten Hag deserved to get his hands on the trophy. “We just want to celebrate,” he told ITV.

“We just want to enjoy this moment together with all of the fans, the staff and the manager. We all deserve this.” When asked about Ten Hag’s future, Fernandes added: “That is not for me to decide. I am just a football player.”

Adding further comments to the BBC, he added: "[The cup win is] special for everyone. We know the manager has been under pressure, but it's part of being at Manchester United.

“The manager is experienced enough. He knows. Everyone in this backroom staff today - players - we all deserve this."

Kobbie Mainoo was awarded man of the match for his superb display, which saw him score what ultimately was the winner on 39 minutes. Fernandes hailed the club's academy, after Alejandro Garnacho for the opener open half-an-hour.

Fernandes said: "He's really good. Such a quality player. You see the composure on the finishing that he had. Part of the DNA of this club is the young coming through the academy. Once more on the biggest stage of the world they show it again."
