Bucks Fizz Turn Down £1Million Offer To Reunite With Bandmate Bobby G

Wowzer, imagine hating somebody so much that you wouldn’t even accept a million pounds to patch things up with them?

Well, eighties band Bucks Fizz have done just that with estranged former bandmate Bobby G.

Cheryl Baker, Mike Nolan and Jay Aston were offered an eye-watering £1million by a top TV production company to reunite with Bobby in a new TV show, but they refused.

The band are hugely famous for winning the 1981 Eurovision with their hit single ‘Making Your Mind Up’ but have since endured a bitter legal battle with Bobby, real name Robert Gubby, over the band’s name and they now have no contact with him.

Jay explained: “We had an offer from a very big promoter who had a track record of making high-profile TV shows. The idea was that we would try to build bridges again with Bobby and have negotiations on camera.

"The company said they’d offer us a million so I spoke to Mike and Cheryl but they were a definite ‘no’.

"We could never work with Bobby again.”

The trio have since teamed up with Bobby McVay and are touring as a foursome, with Cheryl adding to The Mirror: “We have so much more fun now on tour. I wish we’d had Bobby McVay right from the start. Bucks Fizz fans have fallen in love with him as much as we have and that’s just so nice.

"We may not be able to call ourselves Bucks Fizz any more but I think our fans can see we are the real band. We could never be friends with Bobby G again.”

The band’s new name is the rather long-winded 'Cheryl, Mike and Jay, Formerly Of Bucks Fizz, With Bobby McVay’ and they are set to go on tour for three months.
