Bullfighter is gored through the mouth and tongue by 1,000lb animal

A bullfighter is fighting for his life after being gored through the throat, face and tongue.

Daniel García Navarrete, 23, was taking part in his first tournament in front of 10,000 people in Spain’s biggest bullfighting arena, Las Ventas, in Madrid.

The debut bullfighter was pierced four times by a 1,000lb bull – twice in the neck and twice through his jaw.

One of his wounds was 8 inches deep while another that was 6 inches long went through the roof of his mouth and the base of his tongue.

Navarette was thrown into the air and dragged along the ground by the bull, which gored him repeatedly with its horns.

Staff at the bullring eventually distracted the bull and carried the young bullfighter out of the arena.

He suffered a fracture collarbone, a severed sciatic nerve and severe muscle damage, as well as numerous cuts and bruises.

He was treated at the bullring’s infirmary before being transported to San Francisco of Assisi Hospital.

Surgeons there performed an emergency operation and described his condition as ‘severe’.
