After years of being taunted for her height and stunning looks, the Vogue model found friends through her work and is relieved to finally have a “core support group” in the likes of fellow stars Taylor Swift and Cara Delevingne.

She told Grazia magazine: “I grew up being the tallest in my class and was always teased for being skinny. Whether it was because of those people at school or people online now, I had to develop a thick skin.

"You have to learn to cope with people’s opinions - it is so important for women to be surrounded by people who truly support them. You have to have a core support group.”

Last month on National Friends Day, the 23-year-old star shared this affectionate picture with her five million followers on her Instagram account, praising her girl squad, who also includes Ruby Rose and Jourdan Dunn.

She captioned the image: “A true friend is someone who thinks that you are a good egg even though she knows that you are slightly cracked Bernard Meltzer #nationalbestfriendday”

The friends have received criticism for seemingly allowing only famous and attractive girls into their group. But the New York University student insisted they aren’t elitist, and they are very "kind and caring”.

She shared: “My friends are kind, caring, thoughtful people. I think that’s what draws everyone in the group together. We are all very supportive of each other. We’re a big network of really great friends who all have very international schedules and lives. We try to get together as much as possible, even if we’re all travelling in different places.”
