Looking for some new music to get into? Whether it's emo acoustic, guitar rock or bubblegum pop (no judgement), here's the fresh wave of bands and solo artists we've got our eye on right now.

The Regrettes

Are The Regrettes the world's coolest teenagers? The band’s frontwoman, Lydia Night, has already been making music for years, and she's only just turned 18. She’s also rumored to be dating fellow next big thing Dylan Minnette, who starred in the Netflix series 13 Reasons Why and fronts his own band, the indie/pop/new wave hybrid The Wallows. Is a collaboration on the cards?

The hyper-political feminist is unafraid to speak her mind and regularly encourages fellow teens (and adults) to “feel their feelings,” which also happens to be the title of their debut album.

Julia Michaels

Julia Michaels is the woman behind some of your favorite songs already. Before launching a solo career, the Iowa-born pop star wrote for Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez and Gwen Stefani. Now, she’s branching out from her songwriting partner Justin Tranter to launch her own career, with a little help from some high-profile collaborators. She’s appeared on singles with Lauv, Clean Bandit and Noah Kahan.

Her single “Issues” was all over the radio this summer, but with a debut album on the way, listeners are bound to start hearing much more of her voice, and not just her lyrics.

Transviolet

The Los Angeles-based band is fronted by lead singer Sarah McTaggart, who sings about the Hamptons, relationships, and politics. Her feminist anthems are perfect post-breakup fodder, especially if you’re looking for more of a singalong pick-me-up than a Taylor Swift cry-fest.

Harry Styles is already a fan but with their latest poppy EP, “Valley,” the rest of the world is sure to follow.

The Australian artist started songwriting as a teen but only recently became better known stateside. In October she released her second studio album with the emotional single “Give Me My Name Back,” dedicated to women who have suffered from emotional or physical abuse. The single is a powerful departure from her usual more low-key pop tracks.

Billie Eilish

It's easy to forget musical prodigy Billie Eilish is still only 16. The blue-haired singer currently has posters with her face (and a terrifying-looking spider) plastered all over New York City. She also collaborated with “Young, Dumb and Broke” singer Khalid on “Lovely.”

She's also already amassed more than 6 million followers on Instagram (an appearance on the Ellen Show definitely helped) as well as some high fashion credentials. Next Models appreciates her style so much they've snapped her for fashion and beauty endorsements. She’s also sat front row at fashion week and performed at a Chanel party.

The Memphis-born singer/songwriter is redefining emo music with her visceral ballads. Most recently the queer, Christian singer united with fellow rising emo stars Phoebe Bridgers and Lucy Dacus to create the supergroup boygenius.

Anna of the North

You might not know Anna of the North by name (Anna Lotterud), but you’ve definitely heard her two biggest hits. Her earworm “Sway” was remixed by the Chainsmokers and “Lovers” played in this summer’s Netflix rom-com To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before during a particularly important scene.

The Oslo-based electro-pop artist spent time in Australia, where she teamed up with New Zealand-born producer Brady Daniell-Smith to create Anna of the North. Since then, she’s become a go-to collaborator, singing on Tyler, The Creator’s songs “Boredom” and “911 / Mr. Lonely,” along with Frank Ocean. Somewhere along the way she had time to create her own super Scandinavian, Vogue-approved fashion line.

Sigrid

The Norwegian singer counts Adele as an inspiration but her tracks are far more cheerful. She's already been making waves in UK - she was the BBC's Sound of 2018 - and next year, she’ll be opening up Maroon 5’s tour, where fans are sure to go crazy for her single "Don't Kill My Vibe," a feminist anthem made for gym sessions and car singalongs.

Allie X

Like Anna of the North, Allie X made a major appearance over the summer in a Netflix rom-com. She wrote “Sunflower,” which is a plot point in Sierra Burgess Is A Loser (no spoilers, but the song is a dead giveaway). While the movie itself wasn’t as impressive as TATBILB, it also starred Noah Centineo and had a perfect pop song.
