Burglars have smashed into the home of a heavily pregnant Derby woman and stolen precious jewellery including her wedding ring.

Derbyshire police are investigating four burglaries which took place in just over two hours in broad daylight on a Derby street.

The incident happened yesterday in Skitteridge Wood Road on a new housing estate off Radbourne Lane in Mackworth between 10.15am and 12.30pm.

Lana Nel and her husband Murray, 30 and 28, were out when the burglars struck but returned home to find their back door smashed and jewellery taken.

Lana, who is due to give birth in one week, said: "They went straight upstairs and took all my jewellery, including my wedding ring and engagement ring. It's very sentimental, it means so much to me. We're upset by it.

"It's horrible to think they have been into our home and our space. Other people here have had the same sort of items taken and their homes ransacked. It's very troubling and disturbing.

"I think we have all been targeted in the same way. They have smashed through the back door but used our gardens to get into each property. There's a lot of ways they could have escaped and I don't think it would have taken them very long.

"It's made us very nervous. We didn't sleep very well last night. People have said there has been problems in the area with other crime, like anti-social bevahiour."

Murray added: "We're not sure how much everything is worth that has been taken. We're still trying to work it out. It's a horrible feeling that they have been through our stuff.

"I got home from work at around 5pm and police were in the street. They told me what had happened."

A spokesman for Derbyshire police said: "We urge all residents in the area to ensure that their properties are secure at all times and are keen to hear from any witnesses that may have seen anyone acting suspiciously."

Anybody who witnessed the burglaries or has any information should call the force on 101.
