Burglars who targeted OAP 'linked to series of break-ins in Barnet'

Neighbours of a pensioner who died after two burglars forced their way into her home fear the same gang are behind a series of local break-ins.

Maureen Whale, 77, collapsed while on a 999 call to police during the burglary in Barnet on Tuesday.

She was taken to hospital in a critical condition but died yesterday morning.

Detectives are hunting at least two men whom police are linking to two or more burglaries nearby.

Residents fear the same gang have been carrying out further raids.

Latest figures show there were 21 burglaries in the Underhill ward in October with break-in “hotspots” on Bells Hill where the victim lived.

The number of burglaries in Barnet is rising by more than 11 per cent, data shows.
