Bushland surrounding the coastal town of Mallacoota in Victoria was left a charred wasteland after devastating fires swept through the region on December 31.
An estimated 4,000 people were reportedly still stranded near the town’s beach on January 2 after bushfires encircled the area on New Year’s Eve.
As many as 100 homes may have been lost in and around the township from the fires, it was also reported. This video, filmed on January 1, shows burned-out bushland outside the town. Credit: Shaun Everington via Storyful
