Burnley FC issued travel warning ahead of Oxford United match this weekend
A warning has been issued to Burnley FC fans journeying to Oxford this weekend.
Thousands of Clarets supporters are expected to travel south to watch the Championship fixture against Oxford United on Saturday (September 28). Scott Parker's side currently sit third in the table and could jump into the automatic promotion spots with victory over 9th placed Oxford.
The match will kick-off at The Kassam Stadium at 3pm and is the first clash between the two sides in 24 years. National Highways has warned fans and motorists of a major road closure between Friday evening and Monday morning with diversions in place.

In a statement, a spokesperson said: "The northbound carriageway of the A34 near Oxford will be closed this weekend for continuing resurfacing work to be carried out. The road will be closed from the Hinksey Hill junction to the A44 Peartree interchange from 9pm on Friday (27 September) until 6am on Monday (30 September).
"This follows four overnight closures this week on the same section for the essential upgrade. We know that Oxford United are playing at home to Burnley FC on Saturday (28 September) with a 3pm kick off on Saturday.
"Home league attendances are expected to be 11,000+ and this is likely to exacerbate traffic in the area. We want all fans to get to the game on time and reduce the risk of gridlock for both local residents and travellers through the area.
"Please plan your journey ahead and allow extra travel time."
National Highways said there is a signed diversion route via the Oxford Ring Road. After the weekend, there will be three further overnight closures on this section of the northbound carriageway, with the same diversion route.
