Burns Night 2019: The best whisky tastings and experiences in London

Burns Night celebrations simply wouldn’t be complete without a dram of whisky.

Thankfully, plenty of venues across London are planning to honour the life of poet Robert Burns in London on January 25, putting on a selection of Burns suppers, one-off events and whisky tastings.

Go gather your friends and perhaps sample that great chieftain o the puddin'-race, haggis, and relax with a glass of good scotch.

Here is a selection of great whisky-focused events to try out on January 25.

Glenfiddich at Skylight Rooftop

Glenfiddich is taking over Skylight at Tobacco Dock for a special Burns Night celebration mixing traditional music, dance and food with whisky taskings. Live bagpipers will soundtrack a rooftop ceilidh, with guests receiving a Glenfiddich cocktail on entry. It’s set to be one of the biggest celebrations in the city, with DJs keeping the party going until 11pm.

Alberlour at The Gallery

An total of 101 whiskies will be available behind the bar the Gallery in West Hampstead during special Burns Night celebrations, which run from January 22–27. Staff are whipping up a special menu to honour the occasion, with emphasis on pairing Scottish beers with whiskies to create the perfect boilermaker. It’s not all about the drinks though, with dishes such as the haggis tortellini and a cranachan mille feuille on offer throughout the week.

Burns Night tasting at TT Liquor

Cocktail coinossours TT Liquor are working with single malt scotch The Balvenie to deliver a special Burns Night whisky tasting on January 25. Guests will get to grips with four premium whiskies during the event, which will also feature readings of Burns’ poetry and stories from his life. Tickets for the tasting are priced at £20, which also entitle guests to a discount on cocktails in the venue’s cellar bar.

Rosewood London’s specially curated The Glenlivet Glade is hosting a four-course Burns Supper on January 25, with the emphasis firmly placed on whisky. Diners will be treated to traditional dishes such as highland venison and haggis wellington, as well as neeps and tatties – as you’d expect, each course is paired with The Glenlivet whiskies and a hand-picked wine selection. Tickets are £145 per person and the night promises to be a Burns Supper to remember.

Burns Night Cocktails At Iron Stag

Five nights of events celebrating Burns Night take place from January 22–26 at Iron Stag, the whisky cocktail bar found underneath Adam Handling’s excellent Hoxton restaurant Frog. The venue has introduced a special bar menu mark the occasion, including three unique and intriguing takes on a traditional Bobby Burns. They can all be paired with Haggis Bon Bons or – if diners are in the mood for something a little indulgent – a battered Mars bar, served with honeycomb ice cream and salted peanut.

A tasting night at Black Rock

If coinossours really fancy trying something special this year, Black Rock bar in Hoxton is the place to go. For Burns Night, they've partnered especially with Speyside favourite Aberfeldy, who're laying on five of their whiskies in an evening hosted by former Callooh Callay bartender Andrea Montague. If you can't get a ticket for the night, pop in during the weekend to sip your way through a Craigellachie 13yo cocktail, which will set you back just £6.
