A four-year-old boy has died after he was hit by a car on a road in north London.

Emergency services rushed to the scene in Montrose Avenue, at the junction with Burnt Oak Broadway, Edgware, after reports of the crash.

Police and paramedics arrived just after 7.15pm on Wednesday, while London's Air Ambulance landed nearby.

The child, aged four, was rushed to hospital following the crash but was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.

Scotland Yard said there had been no arrests and the child's family were informed.

A spokesman said: "The driver of the car involved stopped at the scene and is assisting police with their enquiries."

Detectives from the Met's Serious Collision Investigation Unit are investigating the crash and the road has been cordoned off.
