New bus introduced to link Northumberland coast to trains at Chathill station
Northumberland County Council has introduced a new 918 bus link to Chathill Station. The station will now have a direct transport link to Belford, Bamburgh, North Sunderland, Seahouses and Beadnell.
The first service operated this morning, and it was welcomed at Chathill by local County Councillor Guy Renner-Thompson. The service will provide the long awaited public transport link from the Northumberland Coast to the south of the county.
The new service will be useful to students who are travelling to colleges in Tyneside, those without cars, and tourists who enjoy the Northumberland coast. Employment opportunities will be opened up to those who are living in southern Northumberland, as they will now be able to travel by train to Chathill.

John Holwell of the Chathill Rail Action Group said: "This welcome development is a first step in improving train services at Chathill the Gateway to the Northumberland Coast. However, I stress, we still have no trains northbound and desperately need far more southbound trains.
"We are heartened that both Northumberland County Council and Mayor Kim McGuiness are supporting more trains for Chathill and we hope their efforts will be translated into action in the May 2025 timetable."
