Bus passengers hospitalised after Dagenham bus roof ripped off in 'collision with a tree'

Two women have been taken to hospital after the roof of a bus was ripped off during a collision with a tree. The incident left the bus roof on the road after the collision in Dagenham on Wednesday morning (November 20).

Photos from the scene show the roof of the double decker and other debris on the road with the bus clearly badly damaged after the accident on Hedgemans Road. Barking and Dagenham Council confirmed the road closure after the earlier accident.

The collision took place at around 10am whilst passengers were on the bus. Most people avoided injuries but two women have been hospitalised as a precaution.

EssexLive's sister website MyLondon has approached all relevant authorities about the incident. A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police Service told MyLondon: “At about 10:00am on Wednesday, 20 November a bus collided with a tree on Hedgemans Road, Dagenham. Police and the London Ambulance Service attended. Two women were injured and were both taken to hospital as a precaution. Their injuries are not life-threatening nor life-changing. Enquiries into the circumstances of the collision continue."

A spokesperson for TfL said: “A route 145 bus has collided with a tree in Barking and Dagenham. Two passengers have been taken to hospital and we wish them a full and speedy recovery. Thankfully no serious injuries have been reported. We're determined to ensure London's bus network is safe for everyone and are working with the police, the bus operator, Stagecoach, and the council to investigate this incident.”

A spokesperson for London Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 10.09am today (20 November) to reports of an incident on Hedgemans Road, Dagenham. We sent resources to the scene, including ambulance crews, a paramedic in a response car, an incident response officer and members of our hazardous area response team (HART). We assessed two patients at the scene and took both of them to hospital."
