The busiest train station in Cambridgeshire revealed
A Cambridgeshire station has been named in the top 50 busiest train stations in the Great Britain. Cambridge station ranks as the 44th busiest station in the whole of Great Britain and sees the most passengers out of all of the stations in the county.
The station saw 10 million passenger entries and exits between April 2023 and 2024, which is up from 9.3 million a year earlier. Peterborough is the second busiest station with 4.7 million passengers visiting and ranks at 105th in the country.
Ely, Huntingdon, and Cambridge North follow with 2.1 million, 1.4 million, and 1.3 million passengers respectively. Cambridgeshire is also home to one of the quietest train stations, Shippea Hill, with just 70 passengers passing through.

London Liverpool Street came out as Great Britain's busiest station with a total of 94.5 million passengers visiting. The station also topped the list last year after experiencing an increase of visitors from Crossrail.
Following behind was London Paddington with 66.9 million entries and exists, Tottenham Court Road with 64.2 million, Waterloo with 62.5 million, and Stratford London with 56.6. Outside of London, Birmingham New Street was the busiest station with 33.3 million passengers.
In total, between April 2023 and March 2024, 1.6 billion passenger journeys were made on Britain's rail networks, which is an increase of 16 percent from the year earlier when there were just under 1.4 billion.
