A street has come on the market for the same price as a house in Manchester - but it isn't a purchase for the faint-hearted. The row of terraced houses in Cumbria, found just north of the city of Carlisle, has a guide price of £250,000.

The listing with Auction House Cumbria says that this price is for five one and two-bed terraced houses - which is a bargain compared to the average price of a property in Manchester selling at £249,452 over the last 12 months, according to Zoopla.

As well as these five homes at 4, 6, 7, 8 and 9 Garden Street selling as one lot, there is also the opportunity to buy 5 Garden Street and 3 Garden Street as two separate lots or one big combined lot.

Each property has a kitchen and sitting room on the ground floor, some with an additional dining room, and either one or two bedrooms and one bathroom upstairs. However, it is stressed that they each require a lot of work and 'modernisation', so it's a project typically best suited for an investor or keen DIYer.

The Rightmove listing reads: "Five mid terraced houses in need of modernisation situated just off Eden Street in this popular residential area north of the City.

"These five properties will be offered as one lot and then as a whole along with Numbers 3 and 5 Garden Street giving the option to buy seven adjoining properties, a good development opportunity."

The listing then explains: "4, 6, 7, 8 & 9 Garden Street, and 5 Garden Street, and 3 Garden Street will be offered initially as three separate lots and then as one combined lot. This is done by offering the separate lots as private auction lots which allows us to park the highest bids then offer the combined lot.

"Subject to the reserve being met if the bid for the combined lot is equal or in excess of the individual lots, it will be sold to that bidder. Or if the total of the bids on the individual lots are the highest they will be sold in that way."

The street was shared on the subreddit SpottedonRighmove, which has more than 250k members. Reddit user @magicaluniquorn shared the listing and wrote: "Wanna buy a street? Numbers 3 and 5 also available!," which sparked plenty of reaction.

The properties are set to go to a public auction on October 24 at the Halston Hotel in Carlisle. For bidding registration, you can visit auctionhousecumbria.co.uk
