Channel 4's popular reality show The Circle is officially return for a second series.

Its debut welcomed comparisons to Charlie Brooker's dark techno-thriller Black Mirror, due to the show's high-concept nature focusing on social media personalities.

The gist? A mixed group of individuals – consisting of older folks and millennials – are holed up in separate apartments in the same housing facility. Their only line of contact is through a shared social media platform, where they can either play it straight or pretend to be a completely different person.

The Circle saw a number of tricksters build close relationships with other contestants, including finalists Dan and Alex – with the latter portraying his girlfriend Kate during his time on the show.

Alex's strategic plan ultimately worked in his favour as he was eventually crowned the winner of the first series, and he's now shared some words on the upcoming follow-up.

"The show is back, bigger and better than ever," he said. "I can't wait to watch the stories unfold from this year's new contestants and see who's life it changes - like it changed mine.

"From what I've heard, the new series is going to have even more twists; I'm just glad I get to watch it this time!".

It's been confirmed that The Circle will return with an extended run and a weekly live episode, and it's probably best to assume series 2 will air in the autumn – as the first series broadcast throughout last September and October.

The Circle airs on Channel 4.
