Cadbury blasted for 'ruining Christmas' as festive treat is axed this year
Cadbury fans have blasted the chocolate giant for 'ruining Christmas' after it admitted a favourite festive product had been axed that usually starts appearing on shelves at this time of year.
However they have been left disappointed and took to X to ask where the small Festive Friends chocolate covered biscuits were.
Cadbury has confirmed that they will not be coming back, prompting one customer to say 'getting rid of them is like getting rid of Santa', the Mirror reports.
One said: "@CadburyUK what's going on with the festive friends this year I can't find them anywhere? Christmas is getting ruined and it's only September..... fuming. P.s don't try telling me the festive animals are "the same"...... " Another asked: "@CadburyUK hello have you discontinued festive friends?"
The concerned shoppers got the response they had been dreading from Cadbury, which said: "Hi there. Our Cadbury Festive Friends aren't returning this year, but don't worry, we have our new Cadbury Festive Animals for you to try.
"They are the same Animal biscuits you know and love, but with new festive shapes! We enjoy them best dunked in a hot chocolate."
The biscuit fan didn't take the news too well and said: "I've had festive friends since I was a child. Getting rid of them is like getting rid of Santa. Animal biscuits are a darker biscuit compared to festive friends, they are also a lot smaller biscuit. They were the best item of the festive range, why did you pick these over others?"
Meanwhile chocolate fans were pleased to hear that a classic 80s chocolate bar name is to make UK comeback after 34 years. The decision to scrap the name Marathon in 1990 saw the popular snack replaced with the name Snickers. Mars has revealed it is making a "special Marathon retro edition".
"We're excited to bring back the Marathon bar branding for a limited period," said the senior brand manager Steve Waters. "It's a great way to celebrate over 90 years of Mars making chocolate in the UK. We hope fans of Snickers, who remember when it was called Marathon, will enjoy picking it up in store."
