Enjoying a meal out is a welcome treat for many but for people with allergies, it can be a minefield requiring careful planning or having to choose from limited options.

But a specialist café in Hunstanton hopes to change this by offering dishes that are 100pc gluten-free with plenty of plant-based options too.

Spontaneous Cuppa, situated in the town's High Street, opened its doors earlier this month, offering its visitors peace of mind that whenever they visit that their intolerances or lifestyle choices will be catered for.

Anne JM Norman, who runs the business with her husband Adrian, said: "People with allergies can rarely be spontaneous when they eat out but here they can visit anytime they like, be it for an impromptu cup of tea or a slice of cake.

"In 2006 I was diagnosed with an auto-immune disease which is triggered by gluten and dairy so I had to cut this out of my diet.

"We decided to make this lifestyle change together which made us realise how great it would be to have somewhere you could eat whenever you like safe in the knowledge you wouldn't get ill."

The pair have made a big switch from living in Sweden working for Ikea to opening a café in the Norfolk coastal town but they hope their combined talents will make them a good team in the hospitality industry.

"We have always made a great partnership so we are looking forward to working together," Mrs Norman added.

"As well as being 100pc gluten-free, we also have vegan options every day and nearly everything is dairy free and we have options that are safe for people with nut allergies.

"Everything is made fresh and we are always striving for healthy and sustainable food."

Spontaneous Cuppa is open from 9am to 4pm Tuesday to Saturday, with lunch served between noon and 3pm, while cakes, muffins, wraps and soups are available all day.
