Costa has closed its Birmingham Airport arrivals cafe as it undergoes a period of refurbishment. The coffee shop shut for overhaul on Monday, January 6 and it won't open again until early March, though it has kept part of the seating area open to customers.

In the meantime, the retailer has installed a cart in place of its coffee shop to keep travellers caffeinated when they arrive in Birmingham. It says the new branch will have a 'stunning new look' that has been 'designed to delight'.

It will feature 'brighter and bolder' decoration and modern features including a touch screen to speed up service. Costa added that the refresh is part of its committment to 'bring a touch of joy to the airports, towns and high streets' that it is 'proud to serve'.

Other changes announced for the food and drink offering at Birmingham Airport in recent weeks includes the launch of a new official Peaky Blinders bar and restaurant which opened just before Christmas. The 290-seater space has burgers themed after members of the Shelby gang.

Options include Finn's Fish and Chips, a Tommy Burger named for Cillian Murphy's character and Billy's Breakfast Bap. There's cocktails too, including The Garrison and the Birmingham Sour.

This story has been edited to clarify that a section of the seating area remains open to customers.
