A cake shop loved by TV star Stacey Solomon is to open a new branch. Scrumbles first opened in Leek in 2019 before launching a second branch on High Lane, in Brown Edge.

The Leek shop - on St Edward Street - closed on Valentine's Day last year. But now the owners, Beth Charles and Sarah Barber, have confirmed that Scrumbles will be returning to the town where it all started.

They have taken on one of the units inside Leek’s new-look Trestle Market and will be selling their sweet treats from Friday, December 6. Meanwhile, Hanley's Slamwich Club has taken on the neighbouring unit and will open on the same date. A Scrumbles spokesman said: "We're so excited to be back in our home town."

The news of the launch of Scrumbles return to Leek comes as the indoor markets are re-opening following a £3.4 million transformation. A number of businesses started trading at the Butter Market units and the Trestle Market last week and others will be opening in the run up to Christmas. The official relaunch will take place early in the new year.

Councillor Matt Swindlehurst, Staffordshire Moorlands District Council's cabinet member for leisure and Tourism, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to welcome Scrumbles and Slamwich to the Trestle Market and to the Moorlands.

“The new food and drink units are such an important part of this regeneration so it’s fantastic to be joined by these local businesses as we start a new era for the markets. There’s just one unit left so if you’re a street food vendor who wants to be part of the vibrant market and events scene in Leek, just get in touch with our markets team for more details.”

Scrumbles was featured by celebrity Stacey Solomon in her debut cleaning book, Tap to Tidy, in her small business shoutout section.

The new food and drink businesses will complement the traditional market café that is staying in its usual place in the Butter Market. The council hopes the investment has future-proofed the markets halls delivering 'modern, flexible spaces' for business and community use and improved customer comfort, safety and security and WIFI.

Applications are now open for stalls. Email the team at markets@staffsmoorlands.gov.uk or visit the website for more information.
