Caldor Fire Smoke Blankets Sky Near Nevada-California Border

Smoke from the 191,607-acre Caldor Fire burning in northern California cast a thick layer of orange haze across a resort near Lake Tahoe on Tuesday, August 31, as new evacuations were ordered for nearby Nevada counties.

Fire crews reached 19 percent containment on the blaze as of Tuesday, after approximately 22,000 residents evacuated South Lake Tahoe during the weekend, local media reported.
