California Governor Visits Fire-Destroyed Greenville

California Gov Gavin Newsom visited the Plumas County town of Greenville, razed by the Dixie Fire, on Saturday, August 7, releasing video of the destroyed town and his sentiments after surveying the damage.

Footage from Greenville shows the remains of structures and vehicles against a smoky orange sky.

“We need to acknowledge, just straight-up, that these are climate-induced wildfires,” Newsom said. “And we have to acknowledge we have the capacity in this country, not just in this state, to solve this.”

The Dixie Fire, the largest single-source wildfire in California’s history, grew to 489,287 acres (about 765 square miles) by Monday, August 9, and was 21 percent contained as it burned across four counties, officials said.
