California Sheriff's Deputy Breaks Car Window to Free Trapped Bear

A video shared by Placer County Sheriff’s Office on June 20 shows a deputy smashing the window of a vehicle in Carnelian Bay, California, in order to free a bear that had become trapped inside.

This video shows the deputy smashing the window and backing away quickly, before the bear climbs out and runs to freedom.

The bear was inside a Subaru Outback and destroyed the interior so badly the doors couldn’t be unlocked, officials said. Deputies determined the safest way to free the bear was to break the window.

“Deputy Lade was brave enough to break the window, allowing the bear to jump out and flee into the forest,” the sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post. Credit: Placer County Sheriff’s Office via Storyful
