The Dixie Fire burning in northern California, grew to nearly 60,000 acres on July 20, authorities reported, as the state’s largest utility company said its equipment may have sparked the blaze.
Pacific Gas & Electric told state regulators in a July 18 filing that one of its employees called 911 to report a fire near a tree that was touching electrical equipment, according to local reports. The utility said it was cooperating with authorities investigating the origins of the fire.
