The BBC has not yet confirmed when Call the Midwife will return for its 2024 Christmas special, but the show has tended to air on Christmas Day on BBC One. It seems highly likely that the series will retain this spot, especially because it has always done well for the BBC.

An official release date and time for the special will be announced in due course.

The plot for Call the Midwife's Christmas special has not yet been revealed, but the programme's social media account has shared some details already.

The special is set during Christmas 1969, which is the last time that the show will be set during the sixties as its forthcoming 14th season will bring the story into the seventies.

As is typical of Call the Midwife's festive specials, the episode will be set during the Christmas period and another behind-the-scenes photo showed Millicent (Glen) preparing a huge amount of sprouts for a meal that will take place in the episode. Another set photo revealed that several characters will visit a funfair in Poplar.

Another behind the scenes photo showed that in the special Dr Turner (McGann) and the midwives will need to help support a baby who comes to Nonnatus House with "very specific medial problems". Though details are being kept under wraps it seems that the team will have their work cut out for them.

A trailer has not yet been revealed by the BBC for the Call the Midwife 2024 Christmas special, but it is likely that a preview will be released closer to its release. So fans can either expect a trailer to come out in November or December.
