The grieving family of a 19-year-old lad who was fatally shot during a late-night bike ride with mates have said their "world is shattered and irreparable". Ellis Cox was found with deadly gunshot wounds at the Liver Industrial Estate last month, after he had set off for a bike ride around 11pm on June 23 in Aintree.

Emergency services were quick to arrive at the scene where Ellis received immediate treatment before being rushed to hospital. Despite their best efforts, the young man tragically succumbed to his injuries.

In a heartfelt tribute released today, Ellis's distraught family painted a picture of him as the "best son and brother" who was "loved and adored by everyone fortunate enough to cross paths with him".

In a statement, the heartbroken family shared: "Ellis was making the most of a sunny day going on a bike ride with his friends. Ellis loved the outdoors and spent lots of time with his family fishing, quad biking and camping, and it was rare he went anywhere without a family member.", reports the Mirror.

"He was the best son, brother, cousin, nephew, uncle, grandson and friend you could ever hope for and was fiercely loyal to us all. He was loved and adored by everyone who was lucky enough to meet him and spend time with him and our lives were so much richer for having him in it.

"Our world is shattered and irreparable: it will never be the same again. We pray that anyone with even the smallest piece of information will come forward. Please don't feel anything is insignificant and let the police be the judge of that. We need to find who is responsible so please share any information you have with the police."

Detective Chief Superintendent Mark Baker, speaking at a press conference last week as reported by the Liverpool Echo, revealed some details of the previous whereabouts of Mr Cox on the night his life was taken. He had been in Southport and then Ormskirk with friends before he was gunned down while with a group of males near an industrial estate.

DCS Baker also shared heartrending details about the teenager's final moments. Just before his untimely death, Ellis had borrowed a bike from a mate and called his mum to inform her he was coming home.

Addressing the media, DCS Baker displayed the pressure he felt in leading enquiries into this latest tragic murder investigation after being involved with the Olivia Pratt-Korbel case. He stated: "The family are devastated, and as you would expect, they need answers quickly and want justice...he was on his way home when he was shot. We know this because he called his mum and said 'I'm on my way home'."

Members of the public who may possess valuable information pertaining to Ellis's murder are urgently requested to contact the police. An online portal has been dedicated solely for the submission of helpful information or footage relating to this case.
