An attack at an holiday park, a love triangle turned sour and a callous break in at a grandmother's house while she lay in hospital are some of the shocking cases to have been heard this week in court.

The perpetrators of these crimes faced justice at Preston Crown Court and are now serving the sentences handed down to them.

Each week, dozens of defendants find themselves in teh dock of Lancashire's courts and LancsLive reporters are on hand to cover the most serious cases.

Here we take a look at some of those sentenced this week.

Callous burglar raided gran's home while she lay in hospital

A callous burglar scattered the contents of a memory box across a grandmother’s home, while she was seriously ill in hospital.

Adam Mullarky, 22, knew the woman had been taken away in an ambulance when he broke into the house in Colne on April 7, 2024.

A neighbour went to check on the property the following day and discovered the break in. She contacted the victim’s brothers who had to break the news to her in hospital.

'Animal' jailed for attack on homeless woman as she slept on Preston church steps

A man has been jailed for attacking a homeless woman as she slept on the steps of the Central Methodist Church in Preston.

Ryan Lancaster, 23, was the woman's on-off partner when he launched the brutal attack in June 2024. Preston Crown Court heard how staff at the Foxton Centre, a homeless support centre, noticed bruising and swelling to the woman's face when she visited for a shower on June 18.

They asked what had happened and she said she had been assaulted. She said Lancaster was under the influence of drugs and had kicked her between her legs and punched and kicked her head. She had swelling to her head and face and appeared to be uncomfortable when she sat down.

'You've been sleeping with my man' - jealous woman breaks into love rival's home then orders dog to bite her

A mum-to-be has avoided going to prison after she broke into the home of a love rival and attacked her.

Elisha Bayman, 28, believed the other woman had been having an affair with her long term partner and quizzed the woman on Facebook. However the other woman did not respond and Bayman continued her relationship.

On December 6, 2022, the other woman was in bed when she heard banging outside her house and someone shouting her name. She heard her front door swing back and saw Bayman, standing at the bottom of her stairs with her dog.

'She was entitled to feel safe' - husband jailed for attacking his wife when she came home from the shops

A man who strangled his ex wife till she thought she was going to pass out has been jailed.

Mohammed Usman, 33, set upon his wife when he became angry she had been to the shops on June 4, 2023. Usman had been in bed when his wife left their Lancashire home but when she returned a short time later, ordered her to go upstairs where he began quizzing her on where she had been.

Preston Crown Court heard how Usman then punched his wife to her left eye. She managed to escape downstairs but Usman followed her, grabbed her by the hair and strangled her. Their three children were at home with Usman's sister at the time of the attack, the court heard.

Holidaymaker glassed onlooker in Blackpool caravan park 'show bar brawl'

A holidaymaker glassed a reveller in the show bar at a Blackpool holiday park when his parents became involved in an altercation at the bar.

McCauley Walton, 27, was staying at Marton Mere caravan park with his parents when the row erupted on March 5 last year. Preston Crown Court heard how Walton returned from the bathroom to discover an altercation between two groups of people at the bar.

He "saw red" when he realised his parents had become involved and was concerned for their welfare, his barrister Vanessa Thompson told the court.

Desperate bloke bombarded ex with calls then set upon man who told him to stop

A man who could not accept his relationship was over bombarded his ex with phone calls and messages when she insisted they were done.

Thomas Dodd, 31, also attacked a man she was staying with and assaulted his ex after she left her home in Barrow-in-Furness. Preston Crown Court heard the couple had been together for around 18 months when the woman broke it off in June 2024.

In a victim impact statement, the woman said: "Thomas Dodd destroyed my life. I have completely lost my identity and confidence after being lied to and manipulated for 18 months."
