Cambridge city centre car park reopens after almost three years and huge renovation
A new Cambridge city centre car and cycle park will open today (November 26) following a major redevelopment of the site. The facility, on Park Street, replaced the former car park in the area, which closed in January 2022.
It was demolished to make way for a new 229-room premium hotel and flat complex, known as an 'aparthotel'. The new space will feature a gym, lounge, cafe, and a new car park.
The site includes 223 underground car parking spaces, along with secure parking for 239 bicycles, 10 oversized bicycles, and 20 motorcycles. There will also be 16 blue badge spaces, two of them being electric vehicle charging points, as well as a landscaped central courtyard linking Park and Bridge Streets.

Work is currently ongoing on the new aparthotel, which will be part of Staycity's Wilde brand and feature as part of the development. The venue is due to open its doors in spring 2025.
Cllr Simon Smith, Executive Councillor for Finance and Resources at Cambridge City Council, said: "The opening of Park Street represents a real milestone for the council. We took the decision to invest in this project because the previous car park was aging, and it offered us an opportunity to develop new facilities that will play an important part in supporting people shifting to greener travel options with the EV charging and the substantially improved facilities for secure cycle parking.
"The aparthotel will provide much needed income to support essential services for residents, as well as a boost for local businesses. I wish to thank residents and neighbouring businesses for their patience and understanding during the construction works; this is an important renovation for well-used facilities in the city centre."
Marcus Boret, Director of Marick, the developer, added: "It’s great to work with a forward thinking partner who shares our common interest in best in class regeneration. We are proud of our contribution towards the re-generation of this conservation site. We are certain this will be a great community success and long-term investment for the council."
