Cambridge indoor climbing centre hopes to move to bigger site as plans lodged
An indoor climbing centre in Cambridge could be set to move to a former MOT testing centre. Rainbow Rocket Limited has applied for permission to convert the empty warehouse on Beadle Industrial Estate on Ditton Walk, Cambridge, into an indoor climbing area.
A planning statement submitted with the application states that a dedicated service yard 'provides for a total of 13 off-street parking spaces'. A further nine vehicle parking spaces are provided to the front of the building along Ditton Walk.
The company currently operates an indoor climbing centre on Clifton Road. In its planning statement, Rainbow Rocket said it was hoping to move to the larger site.
It said: "The applicant currently operates an indoor climbing centre at Clifton Road in an area to the east of Cambridge Station which has been identified as a strategic priority for redevelopment. While this continues to provide a suitable form of accommodation, the applicant is seeking to provide a larger facility which will be more suited to both its current operations and anticipated future growth, as well as providing and improved range and quality of facilities."
The statement added: "The provision of a new and enhanced facility for indoor sport in a sustainable location which would safeguard the future of a well-established provider of climbing facilities and tuition within the city andin an accessible location would in itself represent material planning benefits which should be affordedparticular weight in the determination of this application.
Cambridge City Council will consider the application over the coming weeks.
