The city has convenient rail links to and from the capital, with a 50-minute direct train linking to King's Cross station. It is mainly known for the world-renowned University of Cambridge and its 31 colleges that include King's College with its iconic chapel and famous choir.

Cambridge is also a popular tourist destination, with its bustling market and wide mixture of well-known retailers and independent shops. It has two restaurants with Michelin stars, including Midsummer House, which has two stars and a beautifully idyllic location right on the banks of the River Cam.

The list highlighted the wide number of attractions that can be found by exploring the city on foot. For those looking to stay, the University Arms hotel was mentioned, allowing visitors to stay right in the heart of Cambridge.

The guide added: "Drift along the Cam in a punt, take afternoon tea at the waterside Orchard Tea Garden and explore the stunning architecture of Kings’ College on a pint-sized city break.

"Cambridge is easily explored on foot; explore the art and artefacts at the Fitzwilliam Museum, stroll through the University’s charming Botanic Garden, or drop in at the Cambridge Gin Laboratory to mix your own spirit."
