Cambridgeshire area named one of the 'worst places to live' in England
A Cambridgeshire area has been named one of the 'worst places to live' in England. Peterborough came in fourth place in ILiveHere's top 10 list of the worst places to live in England – behind Portsmouth, Blackpool, and Clacton-on-Sea.
Peterborough has won the ILiveHere poll multiple times and almost always features in the top 10 when it isn't topping the list. The city was also recently revealed as one of the least happy places in Cambridgeshire by Rightmove.
Anyone in the area will know that Peterborough does not have the best reputation. The city might be a bit more industrial-looking compared to the rest of Cambridgeshire but there are a few perks to living there.

These include its great train links to London and range of restaurants to try out including The Chubby Castor, which has won three AA Rosettes and has been praised by the Michelin Guide. Described by ILiveHere as the 'Cambridgeshire carbuncle', Peterborough does stand out as slightly more grey and ugly when compared to Cambridge's green spaces and historic buildings.
Peterborough's high street and Queensgate Shopping Centre might not be the nicest places visually but almost every city has a few unpleasant areas. However, only a short walk away from the shopping centre is Peterborough Cathedral, which is a 12th century gothic building with impressive architecture and the place to go if you want to enjoy some of the history the city has on offer.
It is also very easy to escape the city and enjoy the surrounding countryside by visiting Nene Park and Ferry Meadows. The park is packed with things to do from water sports activities on the lake, three children's play areas, or simply taking a walk on one of the many trails in the park.
If you decide to stay in the city, there are plenty of pubs, bars, and cafés to keep you busy. Argo Lounge's brunch, sandwich, and main menus make it ideal to visit at any time of the day or if you are looking for a fine dining experience, you could head to The Cherry House for a meal cooked by an AA Rosette winning chef.
ILiveHere noted that Peterborough is a city that everyone loves to hate and "on the superficial surface has everything a resident could want except a cultural soul". It might not be able to compete against a city like Ely that is small enough to feel like a quaint community, but Peterborough has its own positives that still draw people to the city.
