New figures have shown the areas of Cambridgeshire with the highest proportion of births to non-UK-born parents. The Office for National Statistics (ONS) published the data earlier this month.

The study compiles the percentage of live births in 2023 in local areas across England and Wales where either one or both parents were born outside the UK. The figures are then compared with data from the previous year.

Cambridge was found to have the highest proportion of births to one or both non-UK parents in the county. It reported a figure of 66.9 per cent in 2023, compared to 64.7 per cent in 2022.

The next highest proportion was Peterborough, which reported a figure of 59.5 per cent in 2023. This was compared to 58.2 per cent the year before.

East Cambridgeshire was the only place in the county where births to either one or both parents born outside of the UK had decreased in 2023. The results showed 27.1 per cent last year and 31.4 per cent the year before - a 4.3 per cent decline.

Elsewhere, South Cambridgeshire reported an increase of 38.7 per cent in 2022 to 39.0 per cent in 2023. There was also a very slight rise in Fenland, going from 25.3 per cent to 25.4 per cent.

The proportion of live births to one or both non-UK parents in Huntingdonshire was reported to be 29.6 per cent last year. This was a three per cent increase from the year before (26.6 per cent).
