Banks in Cambridgeshire are among the 292 branches across the UK set to shut their doors before the end of 2025. The town of Wisbech will see two closures in January 2025: Lloyds Bank and Halifax.

The banks set to close in our county, as mentioned in the list compiled by experts at Martin Lewis' MoneySavingExpert (MSE), are as follows:

  • Lloyds bank on High Street, March, will close on October 29, 2024

  • Lloyds Bank on North Brink, Wisbech, will close on January 22, 2025

  • Halifax Bank on Market Place, Wisbech, will close on January 22, 2025

  • Lloyds Bank on The Pavement, St Ives, will close on February 24, 2025.

Lloyds and Halifax banks on King Street just over the border in Saffron Walden, Essex, will also close - alongside a Lloyds Bank on The Cross just over the border in Royston, Hertfordshire.

Nearly 300 banks have already shut down in 2024 and, by the end of this year, 415 branches may be lost. Among them, 124 closures will leave the communities they served without any bank, the Mirror reports.

According to an article by The Express, experts from MSE explained: "If you no longer want to stay with Lloyds, Halifax or Bank of Scotland, you might want to consider switching to a bank that does have a local branch nearby – though bear in mind there's no guarantee that too won't close."
