Camden Town given Disney makeover for new 101 Dalmatians cartoon with Olly Murs and Paloma Faith

Here is Camden as you’ve never seen it before after it was given a Disney makeover.

The north London borough is the setting for new big-budget animated series 101 Dalmatian Street, a spin-off from the 1961 film 101 Dalmatians — based on Dodie Smith’s novel.

Camden High Road’s distinctive shops and the canal boats around Camden Lock are among features of the area to inspire the new show’s backdrops. 101 Dalmatian Street follows puppies Dylan and Dolly, parents Doug and Delilah, and 97 younger puppies — whose names also begin with “D”. It features the voices of stars including Paloma Faith, Olly Murs and Stephen Mangan.

Producers say they could have set the series anywhere but chose London to stay true to the original’s roots.

Executive producer Cara Speller said: “The canine family lives on a street in Camden Town, so the story is set in contemporary London. This grounds the show in the world that we live in today. We wanted that London feel.

“It gives us the opportunity to showcase the city in a way you don’t often see in children’s programming … a lot of shows can be quite location-generic, but we really wanted to put the stamp of London on our series … the original film was set in London and it’s a very British story.

“From Big Ben and the London Eye, to red buses driving along the street, there’s a lot of London to see in the show.”

101 Dalmatian Street airs on the Disney Channel at 5pm, Monday to Thursday
