Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall Recalls Chat with Cab Driver Who Asked: 'What Do You Think About Camilla'

You never know who is in the back of the cab!

Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, who is a patron of the London Taxi Drivers’ Charity for Children, recalled an interesting ride she had during a Buckingham Palace reception for London’s famous black cab drivers on Thursday.

During an impromptu speech to the drivers, she said: “I’m very grateful to have had a ride in a taxi here today. I haven’t been in a taxi for quite a long time, but I used to spend many an hour chatting away to taxi drivers.”

“The wonderful thing about taxi drivers is that they tell you exactly what’s happening in the world,” Camilla continued. “There’s nothing you can’t find out from one of them.”

Having had her share of media attention for her relationship with Prince Charles, Camilla recounted how a driver once tried to start a conversation about none other than herself.

“I remember one of them once said to me, when I was in the back of a cab, who I don’t think realized who I was – this was all before I was married – and asked me what I thought about myself,” she said.

Luckily, it didn’t ruin her trip.

“He was awfully charming, and I gave him a huge tip,” Camilla shared.

Prince Charles’ wife arrived in the palace quadrangle in a low-emission vehicle before pausing for a photograph with six of the famous taxis.

The London Taxi Drivers’ Charity for Children dates back to 1928, when a driver named Mick Cohen, who had grown up in the Norwood Orphanage, recruited 12 drivers to organize an outing and raise money for the Home.

Today, the LTCFC are known for organizing outings to the seaside and holding exciting events for special needs and disadvantaged children including trips to the theatre and Christmas parties.
