The campaign for Scottish independence has begun - and here is the website

The SNP has wasted no time in starting its campaign for an independent Scotland after Nicola Sturgeon announced she would be calling for a second referendum.

The campaign has started a website asking supporters to sign a pledge and tweet that they support #ScotRef.

The website relies heavily on Brexit in its message to readers, saying: "Scotland will have a choice - between a Tory-run Brexit Britain, or taking control of our own future, with independence."

Supporters of an independence referendum are asked to donate to the cause. In the few hours the website has been live, £22,000 has already been raised, which is two per cent of their £1million target.

The website features a message from Nicola Sturgeon, and contains a letter from the First Minister.

It says that after Brexit, Scotland "stands at a hugely important crossroads" and that  "The Prime Minister has set her course towards hard Brexit, without listening to Scotland’s voice at all."

It also blames the "collapse of Labour" for "a prolonged period of uninterrupted and unchecked Tory government at Westminster."

The letter says Brexit has "massive implications for Scotland – for our economy, jobs, opportunities, public spending, and living standards" and because of this, the country needs another independence referendum.

Nicola Sturgeon ends the letter by writing: "I am taking the steps necessary to make sure that Scotland will have a choice – wheth- er to follow the UK to a hard Brexit, or to become an independent country able to secure our relationship with Europe, build a stronger and more sustainable economy and create a fairer society.

"That choice will not be taken by me, the Scottish Government, or the SNP. It will be decided by the people of Scotland. It will be Scotland’s choice. And I trust the people to make that choice. I trust you to make that choice."
