A woman is fighting for her life after a vehicle was driven into tents at a campsite in Wales.

Police have arrested two men after four campers were hurt in the incident at the Rhyd y Galen site near Caernarfon on Sunday.

One of the victims suffered critical injuries and is fighting for her life in hospital.

Detective Chief Inspector Sion Williams, from North Wales Police, said: "This was a terrifying event for people who should have felt safe in their tents.

"North Wales Police are supporting those involved and our thoughts are with the family of the woman who has been seriously injured.

"Our Roads Policing Unit is working with detectives to establish exactly what happened."

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said two fire engines were sent to the scene after a car was driven into two tents.

One casualty was left trapped in the collision and was freed by police officers before being taken to hospital.

A spokesman for the Welsh Ambulance Service said: "We were called on Monday August 19 at approximately 2.02am to reports of a collision between a vehicle and a tent in Caernarfon.

"We responded with two emergency ambulances. One patient was transported to Ysbyty Gwynedd Hospital, Bangor."
