If the apple of your eye is impressed by the finer things in life, you may want to consider blowing £5,000 on this costly bouquet of roses.

Truly, what inspires romance like a bunch of flowers that cost the same as a decent second hand car and will perish just days later?

The lavish Valentine’s Day ‘Mon Amour’ bouquet from Orchidya London comes in a range of sizes. The largest, the ‘phenomenal’ contains 999 premium long stem Red Naomi roses and costs £4,999.99.

A spokesperson for Orchidya London said: ‘We created this for a very particular kind of client who may wish to go above and beyond a mere bouquet. This is not so unusual in London and some of our clients are in this category.’

Despite the jaw-dropping price tag, customers will have to fork out another £6.95 for delivery.

The spokesperson explained that the price of red roses rockets ahead of February 14th due to increased demand.

She added: ‘As is the case with all florists, we have to adjust our prices during the Valentine’s period, however we have been careful not to inflate the price which is representative of grade A+ roses.’

The surge in price, which can see supermarkets and other retailers double the price of roses, is said to reflect red rose growers in Mexico, Ecuador and Columbia working to meet the huge increase in demand.

If you’re a hopeless romantic with a bank balance that is just as hopeless, budget supermarkets Lidl are offering a dozen roses for £4, which rival Aldi have a bouquet for £5.

At just shy of £5,000, the Mon Amour isn’t even the most expensive bouquet to go on sale.

Arena Flowers sold a 5ft bouquet containing 1,000 rose stems for an eye-watering £9,000 in 2016.
