Canada bus crash: 14 dead and 14 injured in crash between junior hockey team bus and lorry

A crash between a lorry and a bus carrying a junior hockey team in western Canada has left 14 people dead.

Another 14 people were left injured, three critically, after the bus carrying the Humboldt Broncos was involved in a collision with a transporter truck, Canadian police said.

The bus was carrying the team to the town of Nipawin for a play-off game in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League when the crash happened late on Friday afternoon.

In a statement the team (pictured above at a previous game) said: “The Humboldt Broncos organization has experienced incredible tragedy. While en route to Nipawin, the Broncos bus was involved in a terrible accident which has resulted in multiple fatalities and serious injuries.”

Broncos President Kevin Garinger said: “Our thoughts and prayers are extended to the families of our staff and athletes as well as to all who have been impacted by this horrible tragedy. Our Broncos family is in shock as we try to come to grips with our incredible loss.”

“We will be working with our partner agencies to ensure families are notified as soon as possible and the appropriate supports are provided to families and others who are impacted by this extremely tragic incident.”
