Singing in your car is one of the best ways to pass the time while you’re on a long journey or stuck in traffic.

But for one man, belting out a classic inside his vehicle has left him with a £90 fine and a trip to court.

Taoufik Moalla, from Montreal, told CTV News that he thought he was doing nothing wrong by singing C+C Music Factory classic ‘Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)’ in his car.

When he heard police sirens, he just thought officers were trying to get past his vehicle to reach the scene of a crime.

But they were actually signalling for him to pull over – and it was all because of his singing.

Mr Moalla explained to CTV News Montreal: “I stopped and four police came, two on each side, and checked the inside of the car.

“Then they asked me if I screamed. I said no, I was just singing.”

Officers checked his license and registration but despite Mr Moalla’s insistence that he was singing, he was fined £90 for “screaming in a public place”.

Mr Moalla added: “I don’t know if my voice was very bad and that’s why I got the ticket.

“But I was very shocked. I understand if they are doing their job, they are allowed to check if everything’s okay, if I kidnapped someone or if there’s danger inside but I would never expect they would give me a ticket for that.”

Mr Moalla is planning to head to court to contest the fine – a process that may take up to a year.
