Candlelight Vigil Held in Brazil as COVID-Related Deaths Reach Record High

A candlelight vigil was held in Mutuipe, Brazil, for coronavirus casualties on March 6.

As the number of COVID-related deaths continues to rise in the country, citizens took to Estadio Municipal Pedro Alves da Silva to hold a vigil for the victims.

Drone footage by Cristiano Cardoso Pereira shows a huge cross consisting of 1,910 candles to represent the record-breaking number of COVID deaths recorded on March 3, which has since jumped to more than 2,000.

“The idea was to sensitize the population to hygiene care, social distance and preventive measures, emphasizing the pain and grief, with the utmost respect, to families that had their loved ones lost in this serious health crisis,” Pereira said of the vigil.
