A bitter rivalry, Plant cupped to ears to boxing fans booing him as he prepared to make his way to the scale, where he came in at 167 pounds.
Those boos subsided and turned to a deafening sound of support as boxing’s pound-for-pound king prepared to weigh in, tipping the scale to 168 pounds in front of a raucous crowd inside the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
There was a heavy security presence for the weigh-in, following the recent press conference during which Plant suffered a cut after a confrontation between the two and Alvarez was held from approaching his opponent.
While that may have prevented another scuffle, the two were constantly exchanging words and were duly pulled away before the situation escalated.
“I told him, ‘You will see tomorrow. It’s time.’ I don’t need to say anything. It’s time. He will feel something different, believe me,” Canelo said (via Bad Left Hook).
“For every action, there’s a reaction.”
Plant, meanwhile, responded: “I love being the underdog. Cheer for him all you want, boo me all you want.”
“This is what I do, I was born for this, this is my destiny.”
