Canny Hamster Hides In Bottle During Earthquake

An enterprising hamster used a glass bottle for his own personal doomsday shelter when an earthquake struck in Japan.

Twitter user @mnt0217 was playing with her furry friend when tremors hit, scattering books and sending furniture flying.

At first, the owner was unaware that the furry creature had scampered off into the glass bottle which was the perfect size to protect itself from the earthquake.

But after checking her pet was okay, the owner took these adorable snaps of the hamster and posted them on Twitter.

One user on the social media network said: “What a good hamster! He’s got a great awareness of disaster procedures.”

Another commented: “Where can I buy a bottled hamster?”, while one user said: “That would be a great way to carry them around.”

Yet another added: “All animals get scared when there’s an earthquake. My dog also finds a spot to hide in.”

Getting a hamster into a bottle may seem a tight squeeze, but apparently the critters are equipped with strong muscles which allow them to contract their body and fit into the smallest of places.

And the hamster found it equally easy to squeeze himself out of the bottle - when tempted by a tasty snack.
