'You Can't See Anything': Winter Storm Cuts Visibility on Kansas Highway

Heavy snow and gusty winds impacted travel in northern Kansas as a winter storm warning was issued for the region on February 25, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

The NWS of Wichita warned drivers of slippery roads and visibility cut to near zero in some areas. The winter storm could bring two inches of snow per hour, with a total accumulation of four to eight inches, according to NWS forecasters.

A Kansas Highway Patrol trooper said there have been a “significant” number of wrecks along the roadways. The Kansas Department of Transportation said it closed westbound Interstate 70 near the city of Salina due to car crashes.

This video, filmed by Damon Vonada, shows blowing snow reducing visibility along the Kansas 181 highway near Sylvan Grove.

“This is what it’s like trying to drive down 181. You can’t see anything,” Vonada said in the video. Credit: Damon Vonada via Storyful
