Canvey Island Christmas event cancelled ahead of 50mph winds as organisers make tough decision
Canvey seafront was set to be transformed into a winter wonderland filled with holiday cheer, twinkling lights, and festive fun for the whole family. However, Christmas Time at Canvey Seafront had to be cancelled due to adverse weather conditions which caused gusts of wind up to 50mph.
The event was originally meant to take place on November 23 and 24, but was postponed due to bad weather. The organisers have now confirmed that the event will not be taking place at all this year.
Visit Canvey worked tirelessly to rearrange the event but cannot align the acts, stalls, staff, and volunteers with a new date due to the time of year and most of the acts are fully booked on alternative dates. The organisers said that this decision was not made lightly, as they know how much the community looks forward to this festive celebration each year.

They have confirmed that while this year’s celebration may not go ahead, they are already exploring ways to bring festive cheer to Canvey Island in other creative and safe ways. This includes the brand new Santa's grotto in fantasy island amusements.
Visit Canvey said on Facebook: "It is with great sadness that we have to announce the cancellation of this year’s Christmas Time at Canvey Seafront event. After consulting with the team that arrange this event we simply cannot move everything we had planned this year to a new date and we don’t want to lower the event standards in favour of going ahead.
“We share in the disappointment of everyone who was looking forward to celebrating the holiday season at the seafront. We are incredibly grateful for the hard work and dedication of all the volunteers, vendors, and performers who have worked tirelessly in preparation for this event.
"We appreciate your understanding and continued support and look forward to welcoming everyone back for an even bigger and better celebration next year. Thank you for your understanding, and we wish everyone a safe and joyful Christmas."
